it would take too long to explain how this conversation came about, but my jw sister recently told me that the organization now teaches that you can (she even suggested that you "should") have a relationship with family members who are not jw.
she didn't specify whether they meant family who were never jws to begin with, or what, but in the context of the conversation we were talking about family members raised as jws but then left (not disfellowshipped or formally disassociated ... just left).. she said they even had a talk about it at the convention this summer, and had an experience of someone who reconnected with family after 10 years.
she said they said you should have a relationship with them, even if they never become witnesses.
I have to agree there's nothing new here. My multigenerational JW family has always dogged disfellowshipped family. While the non baptized ones were and are handled with kid gloves. And as mentioned if the family member is fanatical they will shun you even if you just stop attending.

I must say though that I love my siblings to pieces. They have accepted me unconditionally just as I accept their decision to remain active for now.

on the urban myth post someone mentioned a story how the demons hated jah's children in the truth, because jah killed the demons children during the flood.
i have heard that story about the flood, and the nephilim, millions of times and never made a connection that god actually destroyed the fallen angel's offspring.
the nephilim were always portrayed as monsters and evil, but who really knows.. interesting point.
Yeah I remember hearing that crap when I was growing up. It served to keep us in line and terrified that the devil and his demons were out to entrap us at every moment. Sounds so stupid now. That's one of the ultimate urban legends.

i go to a women's discussion group on sl, second life, which is a virtual community where you do all sorts of things, including entertainment, discussion groups, media, and just socializing through the use of animated avatars which can be quite realistically human or whatever you want them to be, really, aliens, elves, dragons, vampires, etc.. anyway, a woman there brought to the discussion a situation where she had her real life husband wants to divorce her for a witness woman he had met..and get this...she had come to his door after the couple separated and offered him a bible study, and apparently instead, it turned into a romance and then, according to the woman, her husband and this woman are hitting the sheets.
(you're not supposed to call on the opposite sex alone, and do doubt this is one reason...too many lonely witness women who'd jump on the first piece of dude they meet!
lol).

in my congregation we have many urban legands, like the one about the smurf doll jumping out of a girls lap and running out of the kh because it couldn't stand to hear the good news.
we also had one where a sister was out in fs and a dog talked, it told a sister not to knock on this one door, the sister went to the house and knocked anyway, and the doors and windows of the house flew open and dishes flew out, the sister was scared and ran away and the dog yelled at her retreating back "i told you not to got here!

i was pondering, there is a reaction for every action.
after being hit with so much greed and selfishness, it's contagious, hardens people, and spreads like a virus.
would a large enough crowd, and we are talking a percentage of the world, publically announcing their disgust with their own lives being run by those things, and leading by example, could start a chain reaction of guilt and everyone seeing the positive result wanting to be a part of this, changing themselves.
I think that the negative influences in the world most definitely can be exchanged if a large enough crowd were moved to take action. Things are very bad in many parts of the world. The selfishness, greed and hate in some countries is clear among those who have no voice in the world. It's just that their plight is not easily examined because it exposes the crimes being committed against them.
Certainly had a significant crowd combined their voices and actions during the Rawandan wars and presently in the Congo and other ravaged lands a huge dent could have been made in the suffering those people experience.
And of course there are many many loving hearted people who give selflessly of their time, money and energy and pick up a cause to help those who are suffering.
